Your guide to a restful yet productive summer Summer is absolutely my favourite time of year for how much inspiration it brings my design work to how much the rare appearance of the sun here in the UK lifts my mood 🙂 But summer still comes with its own challenges. From uncomfortable weather to juggling childcare it can often impede our creative time. Today’s post contains a bunch of tips to help you feel like you’ve taken time to rest but stayed productive this season. 1. Don’t stay cooped up. If you are like me & you are not a fan of admin, try to change up your space whilst you do it. Even if it’s moving to another room, your garden or a local cafe. It honestly works wonders! Tasks that usually make me stressed just felt more manageable whilst sat in my garden amongst the flowers. 2. Multitasking. Playing Pokémon with my son, suddenly becomes my subconscious absorbing the glistening sunlight through the trees, the glorious birdsong, the perfumed aroma of the flowers, the beauty of the shadows, all while blissfully laughing & having fun […] the next day my notebook became flooded with new design ideas that were all based on that one unintentional creative walk (& no, they weren’t about Pikachu!). – Original exercise from my book Power Up Your Creativity 3. Lower your expectations, not your worth. We can do anything but not everything, especially during the summer when we have so many other demands on our time. Pick just one thing to a day or even a week & be proud of it. 4. Set yourself rest reminders. It may sound silly but we’ve all had those times where we’ve been so engrossed in a project we’ve suddenly looked up & we’ve not stretched or hydrated in hours. Add a 20 minute reminder to your phone to have rest breaks. 5. Don’t go it alone. Community is so important, especially for those times when we just need a second opinion or to lighten the load. My Power Up Your Creativity support group is open to all creatives. My 1:1 online Creative Coaching is also 40% off for a limited time only.
